Dr. Douglas Bannerman

Departmental Scientific Integrity Officer

Dr. Douglas (Doug) Bannerman joined the Office of the Chief Scientist (OCS) in 2015 as the Departmental Scientific Integrity Officer and the Senior Advisor on Scientific Integrity to the Under Secretary for Research, Education, and Economics. He came to OCS from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), where he directed the Research Misconduct Oversight Program within the Office of Research Oversight, and conducted oversight reviews of VA facility research safety and animal care programs.

Dr. Bannerman conducted scientific research for over 15 years, including several years with the Agricultural Research Service. He has co-authored 65 peer-reviewed journal articles, received numerous invitations to present his research at national and international scientific meetings, and obtained competitively funded Federal grants and industry funding to support his research. Dr. Bannerman has served on journal editorial boards and grant review panels, served as a primary research adviser for several undergraduate, graduate, and post-doctoral research trainees, and also was elected President of the American Association of Veterinary Immunologists. In recognition of his research, mentoring, and outreach efforts, he was awarded the 2006 Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers. Dr. Bannerman received his Ph.D. from the University of Maryland at Baltimore, and completed a post-doctoral research fellowship at the University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle.
