Hoopa Valley Tribe
USDA Rural Development will help the Hoopa Valley Tribe (HVT) purchase a new vehicle for their Food Distribution Program with a $20,775 Community Facilities grant. The Tribe will add a Ford F250 4x4 truck with a commercial camper shell to their program to help deliver food to their clients that don’t have the ability to pick it up because they are without vehicles, do not drive or have other difficulties finding a ride. HVT is leveraging this grant with $6,925 of their own funds.
The Tribe’s Food Distribution program has been in operation for decades and has grown to serve nearly 1,200 clients a month. Currently, the HVT’s Food Distribution program uses a 1994 24’ refrigerated Freightliner truck for deliveries, and staff members also use personal vehicles to help make deliveries. A smaller vehicle would be more reliable and dependable for their food commodity deliveries to their existing clients.
