Cutler-Orosi Joint Unified School District – Youth Center

Rural Development has provided Cutler-Orosi Joint Unified School District with a $50,000 Community Facilities grant to help develop a new Youth Center. The district will remodel an existing building they own and turn it into a youth center for middle and high school students. The new youth center will offer students a safe and supportive environment after school. It will feature a computer lab, homework center, counseling rooms and a training kitchen for food classes. Cutler-Orosi is an area of high crime, poverty, drug use, teen pregnancy and gang involvement that lacks positive activities for its youth.

Earlimart Elementary School District

Rural Development will help Earlimart Elementary School District with a $37,675 Community Faciliy grant. This project will purchase and install seating in the multipurpose room of Earlimart Middle School. The new seating will allow the facility to become a community center and host a variety of events such as health and literacy fairs and community meetings in addition to school events.

City of Huron

Rural Development is helping the City of Huron with a $30,000 Community Facilities grant. This project will purchase a new patrol vehicle and camera system for the city’s Police Department.

The new vehicle will replace one of the city’s existing, worn out vehicles. The new video policing camera system will also allow the department to increase their policing capabilities without incurring the increased cost of additional personnel.

Antelope Valley Fire Protection District

Rural Development is helping the Antelope Valley Fire Protection District with a $78,000 loan and a $78,000 grant through our Community Facilities program. This project will purchase a 2002 rescue pumper and fire fighting apparatus.

The new vehicle will allow for a quicker response by the district to emergency calls and the new equipment will enhance their service ability. The Antelope Valley Fire Protection District was established in 1947 and provides fire, rescue, and emergency medical services to the communities of Coleville, Topaz and Walker along the Highway 395 corridor.
