the Hazardous Materials
Management Division
The Hazardous Materials Management
Division (HMMD) was established
in the early 1980's to address
USDA environmental concerns
and human health hazards associated
with hazardous material spills
or releases of hazardous substances.
HMMD roles and responsibilities
include:
Restoring damaged natural
resources for future use.
Ensuring the public and
USDA employees are not exposed
to hazardous materials or
wastes released from past
activities
Representing USDA on the
National Response Team for
oil spills and hazardous
substance releases
Promoting efforts to minimize
the inventory of hazardous
materials at USDA facilities
and to prevent harmful releases
of hazardous materials and
reduce the agency's environmental
liability
Promoting Environmental
Management Systems to ensure
continual improvement in
the area of environmental
protection
Developing policies to
ensure compliance with applicable
environmental regulations
and address changing regulatory
requirements
