The South Building of the Department of Agriculture is conveniently located with access to the Metrorail and one block from the Washington Mall. This area is also accessible by car from several major routes, however limited street parking is available.

Directions via Metrorail

Take the Metro orange or blue line to the Smithsonian Station. Take the Independence Avenue exit. The building is at the top of the escalator. Enter through the Independence Avenue entrance.

Directions from Virginia Railway Express (VRE)

The VRE L'Enfant Station is directly behind the Graduate School building at 600 Maryland Avenue, SW. Take the VRE to the L'Enfant Station. To get to the USDA buildings exit on the 7th Street side, make a right at the bottom of the stairs.

To take Metro: make another right at the end of the building and take the Metro escalators down to the Orange/Blue line. Take the Orange/Blue line to the Smithsonian stop. Take the Independence Avenue exit. The building is at the top of the escalator.

To walk: continue on 7th Street to the 2nd light at Independence Avenue. Make a left on Independence. Walk on Independence to the Agriculture Building on the left, approximately 7 blocks. Enter through the Independence Avenue entrance.

Driving from Baltimore

Take the Baltimore Beltway (I-695) to exit 7, route 295 (Baltimore-Washington Parkway), going in the direction of Washington, DC. Drive approximately 20 miles to the Howard Road exit. Proceed towards downtown Washington. Exit onto I-395 South (Richmond). Once on I-395, take the first exit marked 6th Street. Take 6th Street to Independence Avenue. Make a left onto Independence Avenue. Continue to 14th Street. The building is on the left corner. Limited timed street parking is usually available.

Driving from the Northeast

Take I-95 South to Route 50 West. Route 50 becomes New York Avenue. Turn left from New York Avenue onto 7th Street, NW. Continue across Independence Avenue. Continue to Independence Avenue and turn right. Continue on Independence Avenue to 14th Street. The building is on the left corner. Limited timed street parking is usually available.

Driving from the South

Take I-95 North to I-395 North. Follow the sign for Route 1 north/14th Street. Continue to Independence Avenue and turn right. The building is on your right at the the corner of 14th Street and Independence Avenue. Limited timed street parking is usually available.

Driving from Southern Maryland/Southeast D.C.

Take I-295 North to I-395. Take the second exit ramp to 6th Street, SW. You will be headed north on 6th Street. Continue on 6th Street to Independence Avenue and make a left. Continue on Independence Avenue and make a left onto 12th Street, SW. The So. Agriculture building is on the right. Limited timed street parking is usually available.

Driving from the West

Take Route 50 East or I-66 East from the Washington Beltway and follow the signs for Roosevelt Bridge and Constitution Avenue. At the end of the Roosevelt Bridge stay straight on Constitution Avenue and make a right onto 14th Street, NW. Turn left onto Independence Avenue. The building will be on your left at the corner of 14th Street and Independence Avenue. Limited timed street parking is usually available.

Driving from the Northwest

Take I-270 South to I-495 (Washington Beltway) toward Northern Virginia. Follow I-495, cross the Potomac River and take the exit at the end of the bridge to the George Washington Parkway South. Take the Parkway to I-395 North. Follow the sign for Route 1 North/14th Street. Continue to Independence Avenue and turn right onto Independence.
