Roger Breeze was selected as area director of the Agricultural Research Service's South Atlantic Area, based in Athens, Ga. He succeeded Mary Carter, who served in that position from 1992 until May 1995, when she retired following over 20 years of service with ARS.
From March 1995 until his recent selection, Breeze was the associate area director of the agency's South Atlantic Area. He served as director of USDA's Plum Island Animal Disease Center, located off the eastern tip of Long Island, N.Y., from 1987-95.
From 1984-87 Breeze was chair of the Department of Microbiology and Pathology at Washington State University in Pullman, Wash., while also serving as associate director of the Washington Technology Center at the University of Washington in Seattle. He was the associate dean for research in the College of Veterinary Medicine at Washington State University from 1981-84. During that same period there he also served as a professor in the Department of Microbiology and Pathology, after having been an associate professor in that Department from 1977-81. From 1968-77 he worked as a lecturer in the Department of Veterinary Pathology at the University of Glasgow, Scotland.
A native of Heywood, Lancashire, England, where he was raised on a dairy farm which he still owns, Breeze holds a bachelor of veterinary medicine and surgery degree and a Ph.D. degree in pathology, both from the University of Glasgow. ¤
