Bob Koopman

Bob Koopman was selected as deputy administrator for rural, economic, and social development with the Cooperative State Research, Education, and Extension Service. This is a new alignment reflecting restructuring as part of USDA's Oct. 1994 reorganization.

From April 1996 until his recent selection, Koopman was deputy director for program management and staff analysis in the Economic Research Service's Commercial Agriculture Division. He served as acting deputy director for research in that Division for ERS from 1995-96. From 1993-95 he was chief of ERS's Europe, Africa, and Middle East Branch in that Division. He served as leader of the Central and East European Team in that Division from 1989-93.

From 1987-89 Koopman worked as an agricultural trade researcher with ERS's Agriculture and Trade Policy Branch. He joined ERS in 1984 as a researcher studying the agricultural sector of the [then] Soviet Union.

A native of Rochester, N.H., Koopman holds a B.S. degree in economics from the University of Southern Maine and a Ph.D. degree in economics from Boston College. ¤
