August "Gus" Schumacher was sworn in as under secretary for farm and foreign agricultural services. He succeeded Gene Moos, who held that position from May 1993 until he retired in December 1996. Dallas Smith, deputy under secretary for farm and foreign agricultural services, served as acting under secretary in the interim.
From July 1994 until his recent appointment, Schumacher served as administrator of the Foreign Agricultural Service. The Aug.-Sept. 1994 issue of the USDA News carried his complete biographical sketch, following his selection to that position. ¤
