Catherine Woteki was sworn in as under secretary for food safety. This is a new alignment reflecting restructuring as part of USDA's Oct. 1994 reorganization. [Then] Food Safety and Inspection Service Administrator Mike Taylor served as acting under secretary for food safety from Oct. 1994 until Nov. 1996, when he rejoined the Washington, DC law office of King & Spalding.
From June 1996 until her recent appointment, Woteki served as acting under secretary for research, education, and economics. She also served since Jan. 1996 as deputy under secretary for research, education, and economics. The Feb. 1996 issue of the USDA News carried her complete biographical sketch, following her selection to that position. ¤
