E. Figueroa

Enrique Figueroa was appointed as administrator of the Agricultural Marketing Service. He succeeded Lon Hatamiya, who held that position from Sept. 1993 until Oct. 1997, when he was named administrator of the Foreign Agricultural Service.

From Nov. 1997 until his recent appointment, Figueroa served as AMS's acting administrator. Before joining USDA, from 1992-97 he was an associate professor in the Department of Agricultural, Resource and Managerial Economics at Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y. He was an assistant professor in Cornell's Department of Agricultural Economics from 1986-92.

Figueroa worked as a staff assistant in the California Department of Parks and Recreation in 1980 and 1981. He spent four years with the California Conservation Corps from 1976-80, where he held numerous administrative and programmatic positions.

A native of Uvalde, Texas, Figueroa holds a B.S. degree in agricultural education from California State University in Fresno, as well as an M.S. degree in environmental horticulture and both M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in agricultural economics--all from the University of California at Davis. ¤
