Gary Maupin was selected as the deputy administrator for financial management in the Food and Nutrition Service. He succeeded Jack Radzikowski, who served in that position from 1984-94, and who is now an official with the Washington, DC office of the Bank of America.
Before joining USDA, from 1992 until his selection, Maupin was the Chief Financial Officer for the U.S. Department of Energy's Savannah River Operations Office in Aiken, S.C. He served as Deputy Chief Financial Officer and Chief Financial Officer for the U.S. Department of Commerce from 1990-92. From 1985-90 he was the Comptroller of the chief of naval research, while serving concurrently as special assistant for financial management to the assistant secretary of the navy for research, development, and acquisition, based at the Pentagon.
Prior to his Navy position, Maupin served in various accounting and budget positions within the federal government. These included senior staff accountant for housing programs at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, and budget analyst for the U.S. Air Force's air-launched cruise missile program. He began his federal career serving in the U.S. Army Finance Corps in 1962.
A native of Washington, DC, Maupin holds a B.S. degree in business administration and a master of business administration degree, both from George Washington University in Washington, DC.
