Chris Gomez was selected as
the deputy director of the Office of Operations. He succeeded George
Aldaya, who served in that position from 1999 until August 2000, when he
became director of the Kansas City (Mo.) Commodity Office with the Farm Service
Agency.
From 1994 until he was selected for
this position, effective in November 2000, Gomez served as the assistant
administrator for procurement and administrative services in the Rural
Development mission area. He was director of the Procurement Management
Division in the [then] Farmers Home Administration from 1991-94.
From 1990-91 Gomez served as director
of the Office of Procurement Operations at the U.S. Department of Commerce. He
was deputy director of the Office of Small and Disadvantaged Business
Utilization at the Department of Commerce from 1986-90. From 1982-86 he served
as director of Commerces Procurement Systems Branch, after having worked
from 1980-82 as director of administrative services in the Office of Minority
Business Development at that department. He owned a family franchise restaurant
in Tucson, Ariz., from 1976-80. From 1970-74 he served as a logistics officer
in the U.S. Air Force.
A long-time resident of Tucson, Gomez
holds a B.A. degree in political science from the College of Saint Thomas in
St. Paul, Minn. |
