Release No. 0408.96 Alan Polk (202) 205-1134 Jim Petterson (202) 720-4623 GLICKMAN NAMES NEW MEMBERS TO NATIONAL FOREST FOUNDATION BOARD WASHINGTON, July 26, 1996--Agriculture Secretary Dan Glickman today announced the appointment of five members to the board of directors of the National Forest Foundation, a charitable, nonprofit corporation authorized by the National Forest Foundation Act of 1990. Four of the five members have already each served a four-year term with the Foundation and are being reappointed to second terms of six years. They are: W. Grant Gregory, chairman, Gregory & Hoenemeyer, Inc., Greenwich, Conn.; James H. Duke, Jr., MD, professor of surgery, University of Texas, Houston, Texas; Robert Model, president, Mooncrest Ranch, Cody, Wyo.; and Ralph E. Bailey, chairman, American Bailey Corporation, Stamford, Conn. Charles E. Long, executive vice president and corporate secretary of Citicorp, Washington, D.C., is a new appointee to the 15-member board and will serve a six-year term. Glickman said that the purposes of the Foundation are to encourage and accept donations and gifts for those programs of USDA's Forest Service which benefit management of the Forest Service-administered National Forests and National Grasslands; encourage cooperation among the Forest Service, states, and private landowners; promote forestry research; and foster cooperation in international forestry. Examples of Foundation activities include financially supporting Youth Forest Camps and construction of accessible trail facilities, establishing a "Firefighter Fund" to assist families of firefighters who were injured or died while fighting forest fires, and initiating fund-raising efforts to support the Forest Service's Recreation and Wildlife Challenge Cost-Share programs.
