Lynn Loosli, Ashton, Idaho; Richard F. Poteet, Rupert, Idaho; Edward A. Smith, Pocatello, Idaho; Scott L. Stecklein, Blackfoot, Idaho; Carl B. Taylor, Idaho Falls, Idaho; Kenneth W. Slagell, Hydro, Okla.; Tony B. Czebotar, Richland, Wash.; and John T. Schroeder, Antigo, Wis. The reappointed importer member is Edward H. P. Barnhill, Milford, Mass. The reappointed public member is Linda P. Drake, Lake Mathews, Calif. Atcheson was appointed to fill a vacancy and will serve a term of office beginning immediately and ending Feb. 28, 1998. All other appointments are effective immediately and end Feb. 29, 2000. The board, authorized under the 1971 Potato Research and Promotion Act, is composed of producers, importers and a public member appointed by the USDA secretary. Producer members are nominated at state and local producer meetings. Each state is entitled to at least one producer member, and additional members are allotted on the basis of the volume of production. Importer members are nominated by importers, and the number of members is related to the volume of imports. The public member is nominated by the board. The Potato Board administers an industry-funded national research and promotion program to increase U.S. exports and domestic potato consumption. USDA's Agricultural Marketing Service monitors the operations of the board. #
