GLICKMAN NAMES GRAIN INSPECTION ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEMBERS AND ALTERNATES

     WASHINGTON, March 14, 1997--Agriculture Secretary Dan Glickman today
announced the appointment of five members and four alternate members to
serve on the Grain Inspection, Packers and Stockyards Administration's Grain
Inspection Advisory Committee. 

     The following appointees will serve 3-year terms beginning March 1997
and ending March 2000.

     The new members are: producers Wilbur W. Benroth, Ottawa, Ohio, and
Gary L. Gilbert, Manhattan, Kans.; domestic elevator operator Robert
Smigelski, Waterville, Ohio; export elevator operator Hubert O. Farrish,
Portland, Ore.; and processor Thomas E. Bressner, Moweaqua, Ill.

     The new alternate members are: producer John M. Escue, Ripley, Tenn.;
domestic elevator operator Bennie B. Lackey, Jr., Stuttgart, Ark.; export
elevator operator Jaeson "Mack" Brown, Napervile, Ill.; and processor Randy
A. Marten, St. Louis, Mo.

     The Grain Inspection Advisory Committee is comprised of members
representing all facets of the grain industry who meet regularly to advise
USDA on the establishment of programs and services that meet the needs of
its customers.
