NATIONAL URBAN AND COMMUNITY FORESTRY Release No. 0092.97 Jim Petterson (202) 720-4623 Suzanne M. del Villar (970) 928-9264 GLICKMAN NAMES NEW MEMBERS TO USDA'S NATIONAL URBAN AND COMMUNITY FORESTRY ADVISORY COUNCIL WASHINGTON, March 21, 1997--Agriculture Secretary Dan Glickman today announced the selection of three members to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Urban and Community Forestry Advisory Council. Two new members were appointed to the 15-member council, and another member was reappointed. The two new members are: Richard L. Dube, President, Environmental Information and Design, Inc., Lexington, South Carolina, and James R. Fazio, Professor, Department of Forestry, University of Idaho, Moscow, Idaho. The member reappointed to a second term is: Gordon Bradley, Professor, College of Forest Resources, University of Washington, Seattle, Washington. The council advises the Secretary on issues concerning forestry in urban and community settings. The council also works with federal and state agencies and other partners to share information and technical assistance on urban and community forestry from council-funded projects. Since the council's inception four years ago, it has developed both a strategic plan and an action plan, and has participated in the awarding of four cycles of competitive challenge cost-share project grants. The council was established under the provisions of the Cooperative Forestry Assistance Act of 1978, as amended (Public Law 95-313).
