(Randy) Weber has been named Acting Administrator of the Farm Service Agency (FSA), Secretary of Agriculture Dan Glickman announced today. He succeeds Grant Buntrock, who retired. "I look forward to the challenges of completing the work still to be done with the comprehensive conservation title as well as other provisions of the 1996 Farm Bill," Weber said. "Equally as important is ensuring the civil rights of our customers and employes. Every one of our customers and employees must be treated fairly and with dignity." Weber has served as Associate Administrator since 1993. He began his career in 1960 with FSA and its predecessor agencies in a county office in Kansas and worked his way up through the ranks. During his career at USDA, Weber has become a top grain analyst and is a key policy advisor to the Secretary. In December, he was named to the Secretary's Civil Rights Action Team, created to investigate complaints that the civil rights of some USDA customers and employees had been violated. Weber continues to serve on the team to ensure that the recommendations are implemented.
