HELP KIDS AND ENHANCE NATURAL RESOURCES IN THE DISTRICT Release No. 0130.97 Media Advisory Jim Petterson (202)720-4623 SECRETARY GLICKMAN TO KICKOFF MAJOR NEW INITIATIVE TO HELP KIDS AND ENHANCE NATURAL RESOURCES IN THE DISTRICT WASHINGTON, April 23, 1997--Agriculture Secretary Dan Glickman Thursday will join area school children and community leaders at the John Burroughs Elementary School to launch the D.C. Urban Resource Initiative, a major Clinton Administration commitment to the kids and the natural resources of the District. The Urban Resource Initiative is a public-private partnership combining federal and local government agencies with grass roots action to educate kids about the environment and manage and improve urban forests, vegetation, soil, water, air, and wildlife habitat in the District of Columbia. Included in Thursday's announcement will be a plan to plant 1,000 trees in the District by the end of the year. The ceremony will begin at 1:30 p.m. on the school soccer field located at 1820 Monroe Street, NE in Washington, D.C.
