GLICKMAN TO HOST FIRST NATIONAL COMMISSION ON SMALL FARMS PUBLIC
HEARING

     WASHINGTON, July 24, 1997--Agriculture Secretary Dan Glickman
announced the first public hearing of the National Commission on Small Farms
will be Monday, July 28 in Memphis, Tennessee.  

     Glickman announced the formation of the National Commission on Small
Farms July 16 to find new ways to support small and limited resource farmers
and to study the problems facing these farmers and recommend ways to help
them.

     Who: Agriculture Secretary Dan Glickman, Deputy Secretary Richard
Rominger, National Commission on Small Farms Chair Harold Volkmer, and the
27-member commission 

     What:     Public Hearing

     When: Monday, July 28, 1997 -- 9:30-5:00 p.m.

     Where: Agricenter International
           Banquet Room, C Wing
           7777 Walnut Grove Rd.
           Memphis, Tennessee 38120
