All of the new board members have extensive professional backgrounds in addition to their distinguished public service. The new appointees are: Nedenia (Nina) Rumbough, director of public relations, Holland and Holland, Greenwich, Conn.; Stedman Graham, president and CEO of S. Graham & Associates, Chicago, Ill.; Michael Berry, president, National Ski Areas Association, Denver, Colo.; and Walter Scott Jr., chairman, president and CEO of Peter Kiewit Sons, Inc., Omaha, Neb. "This Foundation is critical to the development of partnerships between individuals, corporations, private conservation organizations, and federal and local governmental organizations to support Forest Service activities and programs," Glickman said. "It promotes the many values of the National Forests and other programs of the Forest Service with strong support from the people of America. The backgrounds and experiences of these new members will add greatly to the Board's effectiveness in supporting the Forest Service, and I look forward to working with them." Examples of the Foundation's activities include: financially supporting families who lost relatives fighting forest fires, supporting Youth Forest Camps and construction of accessible trail facilities and initiating fund-raising efforts to provide funding for many restoration and conservation projects throughout the nation. The 15 member Board of Directors are appointed to six-year terms and may serve up to 12 consecutive years on the Board. Participation on the Board is voluntary and uncompensated except for expense reimbursement. The Foundation is a charitable, nonprofit corporation, authorized by the National Forest Foundation Act of 1990 to support the Forest Service through fund raising and the development of private-public partnerships. # NOTE: USDA news releases and media advisories are available on the Internet.
