AGRICULTURE SECRETARY GLICKMAN TO VISIT UPSTATE NEW YORK

     Washington, D.C., August 14, 1997--Agriculture Secretary Dan Glickman
will visit upstate New York on Monday, August 18.  His public schedule is as
follows:

Monday, August 18, 1997

     8 a.m.    Glickman will join Congressman John J. LaFalce at an open
               forum to discuss agricultural issues.  Cornell Cooperative
               Extension Fairgrounds (Training Center Auditorium), 4487
               Lake Avenue, Lockport, New York.

     2 p.m.    Glickman will visit a dairy farm near Manlius, New York               with Congressmen Sherwood Boehlert and James Walsh to
                                                                                     visit with area farmers.  Peter andWendy Mapstone's dairy
                                                                                     farm, #2 West Road, Manlius, New York.  

          Directions: From Syracuse, take 690 East to 481 South.  Go one
mile to exit 3 East (Rt. 5/Rt. 92 East - Cazenovia/Chittenango).  Follow Rt. 92
East to Manlius.  Stay on Rt. 92 East after entering Manlius.  To stay on Rt
92 East, go four lights and bear left at the Burger King, then bear right
one-half mile later.  Still on Rt. 92 East, go two miles and make a right on
Pompei Center Road.  Finally, go four miles to #2 West Road.  The Mapstone
