AGRICULTURE SECRETARY GLICKMAN TO PARTICIPATE IN THE CENTENNIAL CELEBRATION    
OF LANGSTON UNIVERSITY

     WASHINGTON, Sept. 25, 1997--Agriculture Secretary Dan Glickman will
participate in the centennial celebration of Langston University, a U.S.
Department of Agriculture 1890's land grant institution, in Langston, Okla. on
Monday, Sept .29 , 1997.

     At 10:00 a.m., Glickman will deliver the keynote address at the
convocation in the I.W. Young Auditorium, on the main campus of Langston
University.  Glickman will speak about the important role that 1890 land grant
universities will play in the next century, issues affecting small and
minority farmers, education and research, civil rights and the USDA's strong
partnership and commitment to the success of these land grant institutions.
