GLICKMAN TO JOIN VICE PRESIDENT GORE TO ANNOUNCE MAJOR CONSERVATION   
INITIATIVE FOR CHESAPEAKE BAY

     WASHINGTON, D.C., October 17, 1997--Agriculture Secretary Dan Glickman
Monday will join Vice President Al Gore, Maryland Governor Parris Glendening
and Senators Paul Sarbanes and Barbara Mikulski to announce a significant
commitment of federal and state resources to a new conservation program
aimed at protecting the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries.

     The event will take place at the Spaniards Point Farm, near
Centreville, Maryland on Monday, October 20 at 1:30 p.m.  

     WHO: Vice President Al Gore, Agriculture Secretary Dan Glickman,
Maryland Governor Parris Glendening, Senator Paul Sarbanes and Senator
Barbara Mikulski.

     WHAT: Announcment of major, new conservation effort for the Chesapeake
Bay.

     WHERE: Spaniards Point Farm, Centreville, MD.

          From Washington/Baltimore - U.S. 50/301 South across the
Chesapeake Bay Bridge.  At the 50/301 split, remain on U.S. 301 North/East. 
Turn left onto MD 213 to Centreville, staying on 213 until left at Spaniards
Neck Road.  About 3.5 miles from MD 213, make a left to stay on Spaniards
Neck Rd.  Continue on Spaniards Neck Rd. until end at Spaniards Point Farm.
