PRESIDENT AND MRS. CLINTON TO HOST WHITE HOUSE CONFERENCE ON CHILD CARE

     WASHINGTON, Oct. 21, 1997--The President and Mrs. Clinton will host
the White House Conference on Child Care, bringing together parents,
caregivers, business leaders and child care experts on Thursday, October 23,
1997.  As part of the White House Conference, USDA and the U.S. Department
of Education will co-sponsor a downlink site and listening forum on child
care issues.

     The conference will explore how the public and private sectors can
respond to the need that Americans -- struggling to be both good parents and
productive workers -- have for safe, affordable child care.
