Ford (202) 720-8998 aford@usda.gov Robert Leverette (202) 720-8998 rleverette@usda.gov GLICKMAN NAMES MEMBERS, ALTERNATES TO SOYBEAN BOARD WASHINGTON, Nov. 20, 1997--Agriculture Secretary Dan Glickman has announced 13 reappointments and five new appointments to the United Soybean Board. With the exception of one producer in South Dakota to fill a 2-year term due to a resignation, all will serve 3-year terms beginning December 1997. Reappointed members representing soybean producers by state are: Arkansas--Clarence B. Moery Jr.; Georgia--James A. Raines; Illinois--William L. Dumoulin; Kentucky--George H. Martin; Louisiana--Raymond S. Schexnayder; Minnesota--Douglas R. Magnus; Missouri--Joseph A. Paulsmeyer; New Jersey--Phillip D. Prickett; North Carolina--Earl B. Hendrix; North Dakota--Gary D. Woodbury; Pennsylvania--Williard W. Haas; South Dakota--Lyle L. Henricks; and Virginia--Robert B. Johnson. The newly appointed members by State are: Indiana--Donald C. Reifel; Iowa--Curtis A. Raasch; Nebraska--Norman L. Husa; and Ohio--Roy A. Loudenslager. Appointed for a 2-year term in South Dakota is Charles R. Friedrich. Glickman also announced two new appointments and one reappointment for alternates to the board. The Soybean Promotion, Research, and Information Order provides for an alternate member for each state or region with only one member on the board. Alternates will serve terms that coincide with the terms of members from the state or region which they will represent. Reappointment alternate member for North Dakota--Kent M. Gronlie. New alternate members by state are: Georgia--Horace B. Waller III and New Jersey--Martin J. Bullock. The 59-member board is authorized by the 1990 Soybean Promotion, Research and Consumer Information Act. The board administers a program of soybean promotion and research to expand uses for soybeans and soybean products in domestic and foreign markets. The secretary selected the appointees from soybean producers nominated by Qualified State Soybean Boards. USDA's Agricultural Marketing Service monitors operation of the board. #
