Glickman and Cuomo Announce Partnership to Help Canal Corridor Communities

     WASHINGTON, D.C., December 11, 1997-- Agriculture Secretary Dan
Glickman and Housing and Urban Development Secretary Andrew Cuomo tomorrow
will announce a partnership to assist Canal Corridor Communities.  

     At an all-day conference in Johnstown, NY, on economic development
throughout the Canal Corridor, the Secretaries will announce that millions
of dollars will be made available for the promotion of recreational and
commercial expansion along the 524-mile canal system.  

     The conference at Fulton Montgomery Community College, will run from
9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday, December 12.  Glickman and Cuomo will speak
at 1:00 p.m.
