The board administers a national cotton research and promotion program. Reappointed members by state are: Arizona--Larry W. Jarnagin, Litchfield Park; Arkansas--Robert L. McGinnis, Marianna; Georgia--Van F. Murphy, Quitman; Mississippi--John S. Howie, Yazoo City; and Texas--Robert W. Bickley, Pecos. Reappointed alternate members by state are: Arkansas--alternate member, John J. Baxter, Watson; Mississippi--Mike P. Sturdivant, Jr., Itta Bena; Texas--Randall T. Bankhead, Roscoe. Newly appointed alternate members by state are: Alabama/Florida--Walter L. Corcoran, Jr., Eufaula, Ala.; Arizona--Diann Denise Prechel, Phoenix; Georgia--Thomas Hubert Dollar II, Bainbridge. The appointees will serve three year terms ending Dec. 31, 2000. The Alabama/Florida alternate member position had been vacant; this appointee will serve the remaining term ending on Dec. 31, 1998. The Cotton Board consists of 26 members and their alternates representing both cotton producers and importers of products that contain cotton. A public member represents consumers. The cotton research and promotion program advances the position of cotton in the marketplace. It is funded by assessments on all domestically produced cotton and imports of foreign-produced cotton and cotton-containing products.
