     WASHINGTON, Jan. 26, 1998--In a speech at the University of
Washington on Wednesday January 28, Agriculture Secretary Dan
Glickman will discuss the Clinton Administration's food safety agenda
and new, science-based system to improve meat and poultry
inspections.

          1:30 p.m.

     A brief media availability will follow at approximately 2:30
p.m.  

     The Secretary will then tour the Washington State Department of
Health's Public Health Laboratories at 3:30 p.m. to review new
technology that is being used to respond to food-borne outbreaks. 
The facility is located at 610 Northeast 150th Street in Seattle. 
The laboratory tour is open only to cameras seeking b-roll.
