GLICKMAN TO PARTICIPATE IN A DAY IN THE FOREST  EVENT


     Washington, January 20, 2000   Agriculture Secretary Dan Glickman will
be the featured speaker at A Day in the Forest event on Sunday, January 23 at
Angeles National Forest, near Los Angeles, Calif. at 12:00 p.m.  Glickman will
join the Jewish National Fund in the celebration of Tu B'Shevat, the Jewish
New Year of Trees, and will take part in a tree planting ceremony.  Four
hundred California live oak trees will be planted in a 300-acre portion of the
Angeles National Forest that was damaged by fire in 1998.
