Statement by Secretary of Agriculture Dan Glickman on Recommendations for Dietary Guidelines February 3, 2000 Release No. 0031.00 Statement by Secretary of Agriculture Dan Glickman on Recommendations for Dietary Guidelines February 3, 2000 "Today I received the 'Report of the Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee on the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, 2000.' I thank the members of the Committee for their hard work over the past year. "The Dietary Guidelines for Americans provide recommendations, based on current scientific knowledge, about what Americans should eat to stay healthy. They are revised every five years. "The report I was presented today contains suggestions for updated Dietary Guidelines. The Departments of Agriculture and Health and Human Services will carefully review these recommendations and issue final Dietary Guidelines later this year. "There will be a public comment period and a public hearing to solicit additional input." # Note: You can access the "Report of the Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee on the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, 2000" on the web at www.ars.usda.gov/dgac/
