Glickman Announces Small Farmers Marketing Workshop Release No. 0109.00 Ronda Kircher (202) 720-8998 rondam.kircher@usda.gov Billy Cox (202) 720-8998 billy.cox@usda.gov GLICKMAN ANNOUNCES SMALL FARMERS MARKETING WORKSHOP WASHINGTON, April 6, 2000 -- Agriculture Secretary Dan Glickman today announced that USDA will hold its second marketing outreach workshop for limited resource farmers, ranchers, and woodlot owners April 11-13 in Memphis, Tenn. The workshop will offer training in using alternative marketing strategies, innovative tools and the latest computer technology available to help small farmers thrive in the new millennium. "We want to encourage and assist small farmers by reaching out to those who have not traditionally enjoyed equal access to USDA programs and services," Glickman said. "We are committed to providing all farmers and ranchers with the tools they need to compete successfully in the global marketplace." Special sessions will provide hands-on experience using computers and new technology to improve production efficiency and to help strengthen and preserve America's family farms. The marketing workshop is a joint effort with Southern University and A&M College, Baton Rouge, La. Throughout the workshop, product quality demonstrations will be conducted on livestock, beef, goats, hogs, rabbits, and poultry.
