ThePennsylvaniaConservationReserveEnhancementProgramisavoluntaryprogramthatwillpayfarmerstoplanthardwoodtreesandestablishgrassfilterstrips,riparianforestbuffers,andvegetationandotherconservationpracticesonhighlyenvironmentally-sensitiveland.Landalongstreamsandriverswillbeplantedtotreeandgrasstofiltersedimentandnutrientsfromrunoffwater.Inadditiontoenhancingwaterquality,thenewvegetationwillalsoprovideshelter,nestingareas,andfoodformanyspeciesofwildlife.TheprogramtargetshighlyerodiblelandadjacenttolandalongstreamsandriverbanksthatcontaminatestheChesapeakeBaywithsedimentandnutrients.
