SECRETARY GLICKMAN TO VISIT WICHITA, DISCUSS CHILD NUTRITION ISSUES AND TRADE
WITH CHINA

     WASHINGTON, May 11, 2000   Agriculture Secretary Dan Glickman will
travel to Wichita, Kansas on Monday, May 15, 2000.  He will first visit a
local elementary school to discuss USDA's efforts to promote good nutrition
among children.  Next, in an event sponsored by the Kansas Alliance for Go
Trade, Secretary Glickman will address local business leaders to promote the
potential benefits to Kansas of expanded trade with China.  The Secretary led
a Presidential Mission to China just two weeks ago.  Finally, Secretary
Glickman will address the Wichita Rotary Club.  

     The following events are open to the press -- 

Monday, May 15, 2000

          8:45 a.m. Eats breakfast with students, teachers, and parents.  Makes
          remarks to help promote good nutrition and better learning among
          schoolchildren.

               10:00 a.m.     Addresses Kansas Alliance for Go Trade event on what permanent
               normal trade relations with China means for Kansas.
