BETTE MIDLER TO JOIN AGRICULTURE SECRETARY DAN GLICKMAN TO PROMOTE CLEAN-UP
AND RESTORATION OF BRONX RIVER


     WASHINGTON, June16, 2000 -- Bette Midler and Agriculture Secretary Dan
Glickman will help clean-up efforts along New York's Bronx River on Monday,
June 19, 2000, at 9:15 a.m. to promote river restoration and the work of
CorpsWork 2000, a national environmental education and service project.  The
event is sponsored by the New York Restoration Project and the National
Association of Service and Conservation Corps.  
                                                       
     The restoration project covers five miles of the Bronx River's bank and
surrounding riparian forest.  Specific projects include removal of invasive
species, debris, blockages and graffiti; new plantings; and clean-up and
building of paths and trails.
