The quantity shown for the Global Allocation was incorrect. The correct DEIP Global Allocation for cheeses for July 2000 through June 2001 is 3,030 metric tons, and Release No. 0217.00 has been revised to show the correct quantity. GLICKMAN ANNOUNCES EEP AND DEIP ALLOCATIONS WASHINGTON, June 30, 2000--Agriculture Secretary Dan Glickman today announced new one-year allocations under the Export Enhancement Program (EEP) and Dairy Export Incentive Program (DEIP) for July 2000 through June 2001. "These export programs help American farmers and exporters better compete against subsidized competition in targeted poultry and dairy markets," Glickman said. "We will consider additional allocations where appropriate to counter unfair trading practices and expand markets." Under EEP and DEIP, USDA pays cash bonuses to exporters so they can develop export markets where U.S. products are not competitive because of subsidized products from other countries. The EEP allocation is for 20,210 metric tons of frozen poultry. DEIP allocations will be made available for 68,201 metric tons of nonfat dry milk, 21,097 metric tons of butterfat, and 3,030 metric tons of various cheeses, which are the maximum DEIP quantities allowable under Uruguay Round commitments. Export sales of these products will be facilitated through the payment of bonuses by USDA's Commodity Credit Corporation. Sales of frozen poultry, nonfat dry milk, butterfat, and eligible cheeses will be made through normal commercial channels at competitive world prices.
