Blind Workstation

Kathy Eng, Rehabilitation Engineer

This is the blind station. It's got technology for people who can't really rely on their vision to work on the computer. So, a lot of the technology on here will have an audio output. So, there's things that have screen readers, which will read the contents of the screen out loud.

Computer: The TARGET Center's mission is to ensure all employees have safe and equal access to electronic and information technology.

Eng: In case a blind employee is handed a hard copy, they can take that hard copy and have it scanned in. And through the use of the OCR software, it will be read out loud to them, and they can still listen for the information that's on the hard copy.

Computer: Scanned page one. Preparing image.

Eng: The other software that's on here is Braille translation software, which will take an electronic file with text and convert it into Braille so that a blind person who knows Braille can have a hard copy of that information also so they can be successful with a computer.
