Assistive Technology Industry Association Conference and Exhibit
Orlando, FL
January 16-18, 2002

The conference serves as a leading forum for a wide variety of professional presentations and discussion about new assistive technology, practical applications, and services. There will be presentations, demonstrations and exhibits in the following program areas: Augmentative and Alternative Communication, Blindness, Computer Access, Electronic Aids to Daily Living, Learning Disabilities, Low Vision, and other Assistive Technology. In addition, computer and technology exploration labs will provide an opportunity to further experiment with and evaluate the latest assistive technology.

Ergonomics and Reasonable Accommodations Training Sessions

USDA employees in the Washington DC area are encouraged to register for a session to learn more about keeping safe and comfortable at your workstation and reasonable accommodations for people with disabilities.   Midwest TARGET Center Director Betty Gahn will hold two three-hour workshops daily from February 13th through 15th.   The workshop entitled Office Ergonomics will review the fundamentals of office ergonomics including appropriate workstation set-ups, proper body positioning, and discuss risk factors for common repetitive strain injuries.   The workshop enititled Reasonable Accommodations will review disability rights legislation, USDA policy regarding reasonable accommodations, and incorporate exercises designed to prepare employees and managers to deal with reasonable accommodation requests.   Contact Paul Lloyd at 202-720-2600 for more information or to pre-register.

Are you one of the 52 million Americans caring for an adult with a disability?   Have you struggled to juggle caregiving with work, home life, and a personal life?   Did you know that technology exists to help you and the person you’re caring for regain and maintain independence?   Come to the TARGET Center’s session, Technology and Caregiving:   Tools Available to Assist Caregivers and Help Seniors Remain Independent.   Assistive technology and adaptive devices for low vision, memory impairments, hearing loss, and mobility impairments will be demonstrated.
