Multiple Disabilities Workstation

Michelle McGrath, USDA TARGET Center

This station's geared towards a person that has more than one disability. Possibly they have low vision and also mobility impairments, and some of the software we have on here is word prediction or screen reading software and magnification software. Another device we have for people with severe mobility impairments is an infrared system to control the cursor. And how it works is with just this metallic sticker. You put it on whatever body part you have the most control over. Most people with quadriplegia will put it on their foreheads because they have some control over their neck. They would just put that on, and as long as this metallic sticker is in line with this device here on top of the computer, they can move the cursor around. So you'll see, with very limited neck movements, I'm able to move the cursor.

So, as you'll see from all the software and hardware solutions that I've showed you, there's virtually no job that a person with a disability can't do with the right tools.
