Fund for Rural America Grants in Kentucky

1997 Grant Award:

The Center for Rural Development

$322,000
Somerset, Kentucky

The Center for Rural Development (CRD) is a non-profit corporation that serves several of the poorest counties in Kentucky. CRD is responsible for management, operations, and programming for the University of Kentucky facility. It is the hub for the regional network that inlcudes the Kentucky Highlands Investiment Corporation in London, the University of Kentucky, the Kentucky Telelinking Network, and Somerset Community College. The grant project will allow the distance learning facilities at the three largest extended campus sites in the Somerset Community College service area to be connected at CRD. Additionally, through the utilization of satellite downlinks in each of the counties involved, telecourses, external studies courses, and training programs will be available through CRD’s production and satellite uplink facilities.
