RUS lists three basic types of signs: warning, cable route, and buried splice location. In addition to the requirements shown under the general listing procedures, the following information is required in a request for RUS product acceptance cable markers and mounting posts:

A. Requirements for Signs

1. Warning Sign

a. Vertical 4 x 12 inch plate metal of 0.40 inch thick 6000 series aluminum or other material acceptable to RUS.

b. Black lettering printed by silk screening on an orange background to a 2 mil thickness with a baked protective coating.

c. Hardware for mounting the sign to the signpost shall be 6000 series aluminum or 300 series stainless steel. Other materials may be substituted for the above materials provided the materials are acceptable to RUS.

2. Cable Route Sign

a. Horizontal 4 x 12 inch plate metal of 0.040 inch thick 6000 series aluminum plate or other material acceptable to RUS.

b. Black lettering printed by silk screening on an orange background to a 2 mil thickness with a baked protective coating.

c. Hardware for mounting the sign to the signpost shall be 6000 series aluminum or 300 series stainless steel. Other materials may be substituted for the above materials provided the materials are acceptable to RUS.

3. Cable Splice Location Sign

a. Vertical 4 x 12 inch plate metal of 0.40 inch thick 6000 series aluminum or other material acceptable to RUS.

b. Black lettering printed by silk screening on an orange background to a 2 mil thickness with a baked protective coating.

c. Hardware for mounting the sign to the signpost shall be 6000 series aluminum or 300 series stainless steel. Other materials may be substituted for the above materials provided the materials are acceptable to RUS.

B. Requirements for a Post/Sign Combination

1. Materials for the mounting posts shall be 12 gauge galvanized steel or other materials acceptable to RUS.

2. Colors for the mounting posts shall be gray-green, green, or orange having a baked finished

3. Length shall be 8 feet.

4. Samples of the mounting post/sign combination.

5. Engineering drawings of the mounting post/sign combination.

6. Catalog designation of the mounting post/sign combination.

C. Requirements for Mounting Post Only

1. Materials for the posts shall be 12 gauge galvanized steel or other materials acceptable to RUS.

2. Colors for the posts shall be gray-green, green, or orange having a baked finished

3. Length shall be 8 feet.

4. Samples of the post.

5. Engineering drawings of the mounting post.

6. Catalog designation of the mounting post
