RDUP Acceptance Procedures for Mainframe Protectors

(Item nm)

In addition to the information required under the general acceptance procedures, include the following information in a request for initial acceptance of mainframe protectors.

Product Description
The application should describe the type of protection included and, if of the gas tube variety, should indicate the gas tube duty class for which the product should be considered for acceptance, i.e., light, medium, heavy or maximum duty per RUS Bulletin 345-83, "RUS Specification for Gas Tube Surge Arresters - PE-80."

Conformance to Standards
The manufacturer should certify conformance of the mainframe protector with PEG-3, "Specification for Telecommunications Main Distribution Frame Connectors/Protectors and Associated Arrester Modules." Where PEG-1 or 4 are cited in PEG-3, substitute RUS Bulletin 345-83, "RUS Specification for Gas Tube Surge Arresters - PE-80,"and RUS Bulletin 345-78, "RUS Specification for Carbon Arrester Assemblies for Use in Protectors - PE-78," respectively. All mainframe protectors considered should retain the acceptance of a recognized testing laboratory as required by the National Electrical Code. Photocopies of the reports and letters of approval of such laboratories should be submitted with all requests for RUS product acceptance. RUS lists protectors for use with specific arresters.
