Sustainable
Agriculture, Forest Management, and Community Initiatives Success Stories
The U. S. Department of Agriculture is working with the National Association
of Resource Conservation and Development Councils (NARC&DC) to prepare
a collection of stories about sustainable agriculture, forest management,
and community initiatives that integrate social, economic and environmental
concerns.
Working
for a Sustainable Work: U.S. Government Initiatives to Promote Sustainable
Development
This report distills the results of a survey of 400 sustainable development
initiatives supported by the U.S. Government. While the survey is not
exhaustive, it reveals a wide range of U.S. departments and agencies making
substantial commitments to achieve sustainable development using varied
and novel strategies in practically all developing and transition countries.
Further, the survey shows the U.S. Government is working to leverage economic
and social resources from the private, nonprofit, and academic communities.
U.S. policy, reflecting broad international consensus on how to promote
sustainable development, rests on three pillars: fostering economic growth,
investing in people (particularly education and health), and promoting
stewardship of natural resources.
Energy
and Water for Sustainable Living
This report presents case studies on energy and water technology
applications to illustrate how sustainable development can flourish in
developing countries when principles of good governance are present. It
also illustrates that funding from both the private and the public sectors
flows to areas where principles of good governance are operating.
Compendium
of LAND and Sustainable Agriculture and Rural Development (SARD) Cases
This report has been compiled as a supporting document
to the Task Managers' Report to Commission on Sustainable Development
+10 on the Land and Agriculture Cluster for Chapters 10, 12 and 14 of
Agenda 21. The report draws together 63 cases from 39 countries illustrating
the many features of Land Management and SARD implementation.
Commission
on Sustainable Development (CSD) Success Stories
Since 1997 the Commission on Sustainable Development (CSD), through its
Secretariat, has been recording successful efforts to implement Agenda
21. This is the fourth volume of sustainable development success stories
compiled using information submitted over the past year. Our practice
is to focus the success stories on Agenda 21 topics currently being discussed
by the CSD. These success stories are collected and presented to the CSD
to help share positive experiences and encourage information about sustainable
development. They are a way to recognize the commitment demonstrated by
a diversity of groups including NGOs, UN Agencies, Women's groups, Local
Authorities, Governments and Indigenous People, as well as partnerships
between them.
