Statement from Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack on Passing of Billy Frank, Jr.

WASHINGTON, May 6, 2014—Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack today released the following statement on the passing of Billy Frank, Jr., a member of the Nisqually Indian Tribe and Chairman of the Northwest Indian Fisheries Commission:

"From an early age, Mr. Billy Frank was a fierce advocate for Tribal rights and a courageous champion for our environment. His legacy of service lives on in those of us who continue the fight to preserve and protect our nation's land and water for future generations. My thoughts and prayers are with Mr. Frank's family and friends, the Nisqually Indian Tribe, and the Northwest Indian Fisheries Commission during this difficult time."
