Senior Advisor to the Secretary and Acting Deputy Under Secretary, MRP
Max Holtzman is the Senior Advisor to the United States Secretary of Agriculture and currently Acting Deputy Under Secretary of Marketing and Regulatory Programs. Mr. Holtzman advises the Secretary in a number of areas including trade, biotechnology, public-private partnerships, international food security and aquaculture. Mr. Holtzman also served as the Acting Deputy Under Secretary for Farm and Foreign Agricultural Services, overseeing the department's entire international operations. Mr. Holtzman is the United States Chairman of the North American Biotechnology Initiative, which includes the United States, Canada and Mexico; he has represented the United States in its negotiations with the Peoples Republic of China as a Delegate on the Joint Committee on Commerce and Trade and is regularly involved with a multitude of international trade issues. Prior to his appointment, Mr. Holtzman, an attorney for 18 years, provided strategic consulting to multi-national companies related to transportation infrastructure, public-private partnerships, health care and government procurement.
Mr. Holtzman is the Founding Chairman of Adopt-A-Classroom, a 14-year not-for-profit that supports teachers and students in all 50 states. He served on President Obama's National Finance Committee and was a senior member of the Florida Obama team. Mr. Holtzman obtained his undergraduate degree in Agricultural Economics from the University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences and his law degree from the University of Miami. Married with three children, Mr. Holtzman and his family live in Washington, D.C.
