April is the Month of the Military Child. This year’s theme is “Celebrating Military Children and Youth: Building Stronger Character and Relationships.” The observance gives us an opportunity to recognize the unique challenges military children face and celebrate their amazing resilience and adaptability.
As the Military Spouse and Veterans Employment Program Manager for the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and a military spouse, myself, I know firsthand the sacrifices military children and their families face and seek ways to uplift them through proactive outreach.
While stationed at Whiteman AFB in Missouri, I spoke with military children about all the great work and future opportunities with USDA. Children learned how USDA helps rural America, feed the country, provide housing support, and research ways to improve our agricultural world.
Attendees were happy to learn of the great people that USDA has on its team to support farming and the agricultural industry to include scientists, beekeepers, to smoke jumpers taking care of our forests and national parks. Often times military children move so frequently they experience new environments, climates, and landscapes from sea to shining sea, and even in other countries. Learning more about what USDA does to help make an impact with the military children on how far of a reach USDA has around the world!
