Are you a teacher looking for nutrition-related handouts, lesson plans, or historical documents for your classes? Nutrition.gov has added new resources to help you. Just in time for National Teacher Appreciation Day, Nutrition.gov has developed a new web page under the Smart Nutrition 101 section that provides a list of printable materials and handouts that can be used for the classroom, health fairs, and other educational events.

Resources listed on this new web page cover a wide array of food and nutrition topics. Educators can develop nutrition curriculum using materials from ChooseMyPlate, including such topics as weight management, budgeting, and meal planning. They can also develop a food safety class with downloadable educational materials from USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service. In addition, teachers who work with teens can find free food-, nutrition-, and health-related lesson plans on the Nutrition.gov For Parents, Caregivers, and Teachers page.

Educators teaching history can find hundreds of historical Federal nutrition education materials in the National Agricultural Library’s Historical Dietary Guidance Digital Collection (HDGDC). Materials in this collection include posters, recipes, and radio transcripts starting from the late 1890s. These materials can also be downloaded and printed for use in the classroom or at events.

Nutrition.gov is part of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service’s National Agricultural Library, the leading source for agricultural information.
