I was delighted to be in China last week to officially open USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service’s new Agricultural Trade Office (ATO) in Shenyang. This new office will serve as a bridge between American and Chinese businesses, opening opportunities for trade and collaboration between our two nations.
The opening of this ATO is the culmination of years of dedication and determined teamwork. As China’s economy has grown, so has USDA’s presence in China. The opening of the fifth ATO on mainland China marks USDA’s expansion into the dynamic hub of the northeast. It also represents a significant hallmark as we progress from the established market centers of Beijing, Guangzhou and Shanghai, to rapidly emerging city markets like Shenyang and Chengdu.
Northeast China today is one of the country’s fastest developing regions with consistent double-digit growth. U.S. producers can look to the ATO as a source of guidance and support in understanding and partnering with Northeast China’s markets, trade and distribution routes.
The Shenyang office, like all others in China, will help to market and promote U.S. agricultural, fish, and forestry products as well as to assist in trade development in the region. Agricultural consumers and producers in China and the United States have much to gain if we continue to expand our trade partnerships. The Shenyang ATO will be a bridge between U.S. exporters and Chinese importers in that effort. With this office, we will continue to enjoy the benefits of our bilateral trade for years to come.
